Badges

Badges are recognition for an activity you have completed, a skill you have learned or a competence you have demonstrated. Badges can be obtained on Pain Community Centre in a variety of ways, the most recently available ones are displayed below and are rewarded as digital badges. A digital badge is an online representation of an achievement you have earned. On Pain Community Centre we use an open standard of digital badges called Open Badges.

Open Badges FAQ

What are open badges?

Open Badges are a new global standard to recognise skills & achievements that are acquired in online and offline environments. The system is based on an open standard, developed by Mozilla, whereby multiple badges can be combined from different issuers to tell the complete story of your achievements.  For more information see the Open Badges website

What information is contained within a badge?

Open Badges are image files, a png file to be precise, with the following data coded into it:

  • The person who has acquired the badge
  • The criteria for issuing the badge; or more specially, what the person has done to earn it
  • The issuer (the organisation or individual awarding the badge)
  • Evidence (URL link)

Why should I be interested?

Badges you achieve can be displayed wherever you want them on the web, and share them for employment, education or lifelong learning. Badges give recognition for the things you teach, for the things you learn and can verify skills and competencies. On Pain Community Centre you can achieve badges by contributing to the dialogue of the community and undertaking CPD activity.

What can I do with them?

Individuals can earn badges from multiple sources, both online and offline. Importantly, Open Badges let you take your badges everywhere via Mozilla Backpack (a free account is required). The Open Badges backpack allows you to manage and share the badges you have achieved on Pain Community Centre and elsewhere.
